The charge air cooler is a crucial component installed in all turbocharged diesel engines in order to lower the charged air’s temperature prior to entering the engine and so boost engine efficiency.

Since hot air has a lower density than cold air, the mass of hot air charged into the engine is lower than that of cold air.

Thus, the charge air cooler raises the temperature and density of the charge air.
